MODX Revolution can be used to create fully custom layouts, functionality, and catalog for your online store or other e-commerce website (sometimes spelled eCommerce).
The more customization you need, the more likely using MODX will save you money over starting with a pre-built e-commerce platform.
Advantages of MODX eCommerce
- Fully custom design and catalog display. Custom-built designs in MODX are often cheaper than hacking the same design in a pre-built system.
- If needed, customize the organization of your product catalog. Pre-built systems force you to use their catalog database structure.
- Add custom tools and business logic to your site. Development in a flexible framework such as MODX is usually cheaper than developing addons for pre-built systems.
Disadvantages of MODX eCommerce
- If you do not need extensive customization, starting with a pre-built system such as OpenCart and adding only a few modifications can be cheaper than a custom site.
